DOMINIQUE DAVIS
London
Comedy is my main talent. I have performed in so many venues, such as The Drum Theatre (Birmingham), Broadway Theatre (Catford), Lyric Hammersmith, Edinburgh 'FRINGE' Festival (Scotland) to name a few. However, Acting is another talent I would like to accomplish and what drove me towards this direction was during my Secondary Education at St Martin in the Fields High school for Girls. I always used to perform in plays at school since I was 11 years old. I was also driven forward by my Uncle - Paul Murphy, who starred in the award winning film Bugsy Malone in 1976 and performed in The Wiz’ Musical at Hackney Empire in 2000.
I began stand-up comedy when I was 16 years old and have progressed more and more over the years. I have progressed by networking in professional environments such as BBC HQ 2009, Channel 4 2010, HQ, Screen Nation Awards 2011 and most recently BAFTA Awards 2013. I have also experienced Repertory Theatre and Alternative Comedy in various venues such as Drill Hall Theatre (LGBT), Soho Theatre and Bloomsbury Theatre.
To broaden my horizons in Show business, I have successfully participated in a number of workshops, not just in Comedy, but also in:
•Radio Play for BBC Radio 4 workshop: Two Birds in a Park,
•Presenting for Noostar TV supported by Porcelain Film ltd.
•Writing and directing a theatre play: ‘Chance of Changes,’ performed at The Arts Depot.
•Performing as an Actress in a number of theatres such as, The Bull Theatre, Cockpit Theatre, Arcola Theatre, etc.
As mentioned above, I have performed at the Edinburgh FRINGE Festival twice, once in 2008 with my Sixth-form Class from St Martin in the Fields, then again in 2011 with other amateur comedians. This was when I received the acclaimed title 'Youngest Comedienne in Britain’. My stage-name in Comedy is ‘Variety D’, which I had patented by Equity. I have been a member of Equity since 2011.
Although I have been doing Professional Stand-up for nearly a decade on and off, I have prioritised my studies at University because I have a passion to discover more within Acting and the Film industry. I have attended drama schools such as Identity Drama School and Sutara Drama Academy alongside Arts Educationall School (MA Acting Degree )
in order gain more intensive experience and skills in the field. I believe I can also pursue incredible things, such as acting on stage/camera and scriptwriting.
