Susan Cohen DeStefano

Hello, all --
I am an actor/singer/voiceover artist based in New Jersey, acrpss the GW Bridge from NYC. Most people think of me as someone who's always been singing, and that's been true since I was about 7 years old. I sang in English starting in elementary school, and and in Hebrew in -- well, Hebrew school from about the same time in my life.
In high school and at Sarah Lawrence College, I became a choral singer and soloist, and increased the number of languages in which I sang to include French, Italian, Spanish, German and Latin. I sang at music festivals in the UK, Italy, Israel, the former Jugoslavija, Russia and Switzerland with the College's touring chorus. At Sarah Lawrence, I also learned the dances and singing style of the Balkans, which have remained among my passions to this day. I also began to study acting as a member of the College's Studio Theatre, directed by Charles Carshon. After graduation, I also studied at Circle-in-the-Square Theatre School, whose faculty included Nikos Psacharopoulos, Mark Epstein and David Margulies.
After a lengthy hiatus, during which I became a Cantorial Soloist in Reform synagogues*, I began work in community theatre, as the Mother Abbess in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and Mrs. Paroo in THE MUSIC MAN at Summerstage at Leonia, NJ. I eventually made the leap to paid theatrical productions, which have most recently included multiple roles in THE SPOON RIVER PROJECT, Aunt March in LITTLE WOMEN, The Housekeeper in MAN OF LA MANCHA, Heidi Schiller in FOLLIES, and two Zoommusicals, FAILURE; A Love Story, and Mrs. Tottendale in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.
* I am one of a very few people who can honestly say "I look as good in a yarmulke as I do in a wimple and veil."
