Scott Barrington
As a professionally trained award winning writer, director, producer and a jobbing actor for the last 30 years I can confidently say I have experience in creating a character for any role.
Whether that's from an actors standpoint or from the casting chair where I have sat or from the directors perspective where I have to fill my frame with truth of the story.
I have directed for the stage too and my ultimate priority for helping a scene work is if it works for the audience- that is all that matters.
As an actor I cannot put in an unprepared performance, I'd rather not do it because all it takes is one, lazy performance and that's your reputation tarnished probably forever in some casting directors eyes because there is thousands of other choices with artists who have put in the work to get their character breathing and behaving off the page. Don't make the mistake of never being prepared, there's no excuse and no quarter will be given by busy industry creatives.
I do not know all the answers, nobody does, but I always have a bold, interesting and inventive spin on reading a scene which can only help you when you stand across from the casting director and deliver something which will resonate, reverberate and release something from deep within you which is truthful to the character and hopefully book you that next gig.
